Edinburgh hooker Adam McBurney will join Connacht in the summer, ending a three-year stint in the capital.

McBurney will make the switch to Galway having struggled for game-time this season, finding himself behind Scotland duo Ewan Ashman and Dave Cherry in the pecking order.

He’s made 24 appearances for the club to date, while also playing three times for Gloucester in a loan spell this season.

McBurney broke into professional rugby with Ulster, making 43 appearances in four years at the Kinsgpan Stadium from his debut in 2017.

The hooker, who qualifies for Scotland through his grandmother, also featured for Ireland at the 2016 Under 20 World Championship.

On moving to Connacht, the 27-year-old said: “I’m really looking forward to making the move to Connacht next season.

I’m really impressed by where the club is going and the potential for me to make an impact there. I can’t wait to move back to Ireland, get settled and help the club achieve success.”

Connacht Head Coach Pete Wilkins added: “Adam is a player with a huge amount of experience gathered in a relatively short period.

“He’s still only 27 but has played URC, Premiership, Champions Cup and Challenge Cup rugby so will have plenty to offer us.

“We look forward to welcoming him to Connacht and providing an environment for him to continue to grow his game, and I’ve no doubt he will become an important member of the squad next season.”

Edinburgh confirmed McBurney’s impending departure with a statement on social media.

It read: “Best of luck to Adam McBurney who will join Connacht at the end of the season.

"Thank you for your commitment to the jersey during your three-year spell in the capital.”
