Scotland Name U20 Team To Face Australia In World Championship Opener

John Dalziel has announced his under-20 Scotland team to face Australia tomorrow in their opening match of the World Championship.

The selection is a mix of experience with well known pro players like Edinburgh Rugby’s Jamie Ritchie and Blair Kinghorn, Glasgow Warrior’s Zander Fagerson and captain Scott Cummings, as well as promising new talent like Cameron Gray and Alex Craig who have been named on the bench.

Head Coach John Dalziel had this to say:

We’ve gone for an experienced team, which we feel has the right blend to execute our game plan, as well as dealing with the threats Australia will pose.

This Scotland team comes into the World Championship brimming with confidence following their win over Italy and first ever defeat of England in this year’s U20 6 Nations. Scotland lost to 31 to 21 against Australia in last year’s tournament, so a win tomorrow would show serious progress for the young side.

  1. Looks like a strong team named, was very impressed with several players during the u20 six nations, Matt Smith in particular, but by no means alone in impressing! As a Glasgow fan I hope to see him next season getting some first team action!

  2. We certainly have a chance of beating the Aussies!
We won our earlier matches in the Six Nations, including a big victory over the English. The team was sorely weakened away to the Welsh, because the Pro12 teams recalled some of their best Under 20 players. Even so, we lost narrowly to Wales, because of a penalty in the dying seconds.
It is difficult though, to express too much confidence in their match against the Aussies, because I have little knowledge of the Wallabies.
I am sure the Scots will play well, providing they are not playing against very physically mature players.
