Scotland’s Newboy Huw Jones Equals Super Rugby Record With 4 Try Masterclass

New Scotland cap Huw Jones was in blistering form for the Stormers scoring 4 tries and being named Man of the Match against the Southern King in round 17 of Super Rugby.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man.

Just a couple of short weeks after making his Scotland debut off the bench against Japan, and already Huw Jones was showing what a bit of confidence can bring with a 4 try record equalling masterclass against the Southern Kings – something that puts him amongst the rarest of company.

He was awarded Man of the Match for his efforts and if it wasn’t before, it will be now be obvious to everyone what an exciting talent Vern Cotter has on his hands.

There’s been no word yet on whether he’ll be coming to Edinburgh or Glasgow any time soon, but either way we should be grateful he chose to don the thistle over the protea.

  1. There’s good options at centre, Duncan Taylor deserves to start at 13 (unless partnered with Bennett), then any of Scott, Dunbar or Horne at 12. Hopefully our centres stay injury free and get some form! Poor Dunbar has had a torrid 18 months with injury and on form he’d be my first choice 12.

  2. Jones looks like quality – but lets be fair – Southern Kings aren’t much opposition. He was barely in the Play-Off this weekend – but none of the Stormers were. Kiwi rugby is a level above . . . . . Saying that he deserves a full run for Scotland to see how he blends in. All this competition . . I just wish we had the same talent-in-depth at 10!
