Scotland Name Team To Face England In Calcutta Cup Showdown

The Scotland team to take on England this Saturday in Round 4 of the RBS Six Nations has been named and includes one change to the starting team and a new cap on the bench.

Following his dynamic performances off the bench and the injury to John Hardie, Vern Cotter has called upon Hamish Watson to partner captain John Barclay and Ryan Wilson in the backrow.

Du Preez has an unrivalled skill-set

The other major change is also in the backrow, with Edinburgh number 8 Cornell du Preez being called up to the bench for what could be his first cap. The dynamic South African and fan favourite qualified for Scotland back in November and has been in fine form since coming back from injury.

The stakes couldn’t be higher with Scotland looking for their first victory at Twickenham in 34 years and their first Triple Crown since 1990, whilst England are attempting to equal the All Black’s record 18 straight victories.

  1. We have a decent team now , it was no fluke beating Ireland and Wales though from reading some post our Southern friends are still writing us off as a joke still . Things have changed we are organised , fast and not here just to make up the numbers anymore , best of luck boys

  3. Nice to see us having a settled team and Hamish more than deserves his place as he been awesome off the bench. The only thing that worries me is that they have a strong bench and if it is close on the 60 minute mark they might make the difference

  5. This is the team l think l would have picked and l’ve no problem with bench eitstronTaking injuries into account l don’t think we could have a stronger starting xv, so its up to the 22 man squad to bring home the result we’ve been waiting 34 years for. Mind you this is probably the strongest English team we’ve been up against but it would be all the sweeter if we can best them.

  9. The closest team to England’s calibre in years. Scotland have never been more confident going into the Calcutta cup. Please give us a closely contested match without giving away penalties, kick the ball down the side lines to give us good ground & pray that Finn Russell is in top form as he can be a bit of a liability.

  11. I’m always a proud supporter of Scottish rugby but this team are by far and away the strongest looking side for a good long while. Keep the heid boys, play with heart and don’t give them an inch. You can totally do this. No pressure

  13. The Scotland team is certainly on the up and are paying well at the moment. And I hope with all my heart that Scotland with a bit of good luck can do it , but what we have to remember is England have been playing badly and are wining. But hopefully that will change on Saturday, come on Scotland let’s make it a day to remember .

  15. It’s a good line up but the England team also looks strong on paper. Having said that England have just not clicked and here’s hoping that doesn’t happen this weekend. I’ll be getting out my bed at 1.30am in Oz to cheer on the boys in blue.

  17. We are at least on terms apart from the front 5. Great players, but The French game showed that we can be put under pressure in the scrum and in the tight………….if we can get on as good terms here as we did against Wales………….then it’s game on!

  19. Really, really looking forward to this one, despite the false dawns heading to Twickers in the past. Pity about Maitland, but Visser does like to finish. My one serious concern is the front row, and we need to stop messing round in the scrum and just get the ball back ASAP. Good to blood our new props, but it’s going to be a tough afternoon for them again – they need to get their technique spot on, otherwise we’re stuffed before we start. The real reason I am looking forward to this is the team now has some wins and confidence – we need to go with belief, and I think we can do that.
