Grant Gilchrist will co-captain Edinburgh on his return to the team after missing the trip to South Africa for personal reasons.

Gilchrist is one of three changes to the Edinburgh team from the defeat against Sharks last week, and victory over Bayonne on Saturday could see them return to Durban in the next round of the Challenge Cup.

Gilchrist comes in for Jamie Hodgson who drops to the bench and the other changes see Mark Bennett return at centre and Luan de Bruin come in for his first start of the season in the front row.

It's the same back three as last week meaning Wes Goosen starts at full back with Jake Henry and Duhan van der Merwe continuing on the wing. Henry is in for his third start in a row and it will be his first appearance for Edinburgh at the Hive after making his debut during the South Africa tour.

Scotland Rugby News: Mark Bennett is preparing for his 100th Edinburgh appearance

Bennett returns at outside centre having missed the loss to Sharks with concussion, meaning Chris Dean drops to the bench and Matt Currie moves to the inside.

It's the same half backs partnership with Ben Healy continuing alongside Ben Vellacott for the fourth match in a row.

De Bruin has played all of his rugby at Edinburgh in the tighthead position but he'll play at loosehead for this one with Pierre Schoeman ruled out through injury after picking up a concussion while Boan Venter and Robin Hyslop also remain on the sidelines.

De Bruin is joined by Ewan Ashman and WP Nel in the front row while Gilchrist is partnered by Sam Skinner in the second row.

The back row sees Hamish Watson, fresh off of signing his new contract, start alongside Jamie Ritchie and Bill Mata.

There could be a debut from the bench too with young prop Mikey Jones included for the first time and the 22-year-old is joined by Dave Cherry and D'Arcy Rae to cover the front row. Hodgson drops down from the starting XV last week and will cover the locks while Luke Crosbie makes his return from injury.

Ali Price is included after missing the South Africa trip due to the birth of his first child while James Lang and Chris Dean complete the squad.
